Sometimes people avoid getting family photos taken with little kids because, let’s be real, it can be so stressful.
I’m going to give you some tips on how to create a fun-filled session with your younger kids.
Set guidelines before the session but don’t have too high of expectations
Before the session, make sure you talk to your kids about what will be going on. Make sure to let them know that it’s going to be so fun but also set some guidelines for what you expect out of the session.
Go out for a treat afterwards
Let the kids look forward to something super special afterwards. Whether it be ice cream, lollipop or just a playdate at the park! I’ve noticed this really helps kids cooperate.
Fully rested and full bellies
If you can, schedule the session after a nap or when you know your baby is the happiest. And snacks! I’ve had mom’s give their babies snacks throughout the session to keep them engaged and happy!
Bring a change of clothes
Have a backup set of clothes in your car when you arrive to the session. We all know those dreaded blowouts or spills happen at the worst time possible.
Let them be kids
The special thing about having a session with your kids is that YOU get to be in the photos! If you can tell it just isn’t working out the way you expected it to, embrace what makes them happy.
Find bugs with them, tickle them, kids the tops of their nose, dance with them! I love capturing candid, in the moment shots that truly represent you and your kids!
